If you haven’t worked with a designer before, for some it can be a little daunting but it really shouldn’t be. Developing your brand should be an exciting experience with a rewarding outcome if the project is handled well.

Here are a few FAQs which should help answer any concerns you may have:

Why hire me?

Hire me and you not only get 16 years experience but you pay for what matters: working with me and noone else. You’re not paying for trendy offices, pointless overheads, unnecessary charges or hidden costs – just a quality design-service. Your project requirements won’t get diluted or lost in translation because you’re dealing directly with me, wherever you are in the world. I am flexible and can often respond to challenges immediately. Because I predominately work alone, I structure my working week carefully – this allows me to dedicate quality time to your project, paying attention to detail, without any distractions. Your business is important and I ensure all my clients are completely satisfied before final delivery of the project.

What do clients usually need me to do?

Everyone I work with has different needs. An established company with an existing brand-style might require me to create marketing collateral in line with their current guidelines. However a new start-up may request me to create everything from a logo, stationery and brand guidelines to a website, signage, livery and sales material.

What do I do?

I work alongside you to produce a quality design solution for your company, whatever your requirements. By ensuring I fully understand your needs, I’ll produce a distinctive look that will help you stand out from your competitors. Your brand is much more than just a logo, it’s a major part of your business. It defines how customers see you and should be treated as an investment.

How long will my project take to complete?

Depending on your requirements, it can take anything from a week to a few months but the average time spent on a project seems to be around two weeks.

How much do I charge?

My costs are not as expensive as you may think. All design work is quoted using an hourly rate – it really depends on what is required. My rate reflects more than just the time spent on your project; it also includes the twenty years experience I have. You’re paying for an original design and a quality service but without the unnecessary overheads of an design agency.

Are there any hidden costs?

No. All costs are covered in the initial design estimate which you approve prior to commencement. The design estimate will also include a certain number of design revisions. I’d be more than happy to send an estimate so just email or give me a call.

How does the design process work?

The design process starts upon agreement of the design estimate. Once I have conformation of this then I book your project in and we’ll discuss the brief in more depth. We can do this through a conversation where I find out more about your company and what exactly is required. I may ask you to complete a branding questionnaire – the more I know about your requirements upfront, the smoother the process.

What happens once I am happy with my designs?

Once payment has been received, the copyright is transferred to your ownership. Depending on the type of project, I will send a digital logo set in various file formats for your own use, high resolution pdfs or working Indesign files to either yourself or a chosen third party.

How do I pay and what are your terms?

The standard is part payment upfront to secure my time, then invoiced in full once the project has been completed successfully and approved. Payment terms are standard 30 days and can be paid by bank transfer, cheque or PayPal.

Can you organise print for me?

Yes. I have a vast knowledge of printing through my experience in design agencies and will be only too happy to source and liaise with printers for you. After all, I want to make sure your design work is reproduced to the highest standards possible.

I need my project ASAP, can you start it straight away?

Maybe, it just depends on my workload at the time but usually I can book work in to start within a few days. I work on a few different projects at a time so this affords me a certain amount of flexibility.

I’m based outside the UK, how will this work?

I often work with overseas clients – this doesn’t affect anything I do and we can liaise via email, Skype, Go To Meeting or an alternative. Design presentations are emailed as pdfs and payment can be made via PayPal once the project is complete.

Do you freelance for other agencies?

Yes I often work for other agencies remotely. I regularly work with London agencies and have also worked with agencies in Europe, the Middle East and the U.S.

Do you offer white labelling services?

Yes I have worked for major brands in the past and continue to do so regularly. I offer design services and also retouching and artworking services. For example, I have illustrated children’s books and worked on product packaging for a major UK children’s toy maker after signing a standard non-disclosure agreement.
